Occ health: Municipal Occupational Health records

RECORDKEEPING
– Keep good clinical notes
– Keep numbered files
– Keep files in a safe or fire-safe place in the occupational health clinic. Medical files may not be stored in other departments in order to ensure medical confidentiality
– Keep occupational health files for 5 years after the employee’s resignation or demise
– Keep the file for 20 years if the employee suffered an injury-on-duty (IOD)
– Keep the files for 40 years after the employee’s demise or resignation if the employee was exposed to asbestos or any other listed hazardous chemical
– Clinical information may only be released on employee’s consent
